RENO (AP) - A Smith Valley woman says mountain lions killed 17 of her sheep in one night.
Woodi Rae Forrester told KRNV-TV that she came home last Friday night and found all her sheep dead in their pen. One had been eaten and the others were mauled and suffocated.
Officials with the USDA Wildlife Services are working to trap the mountain lions responsible for killing Forrester's sheep and some other pets in the Smith Valley and Wellington areas of Lyon County.
Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy says drought and the recent Bison Fire in the Pine Nut Mountains may be causing more mountain lions to move into that region.
Forrester says wildlife services officials tell her there may be seven lions involved. So far two have been trapped.[[In-content Ad]]
