LOVELOCK - A driver suffered serious injuries when his Ford pickup veered off the eastbound Interstate 80 freeway near Lovelock at about 6 p.m. on Sunday. The victim was taken by ambulance to Pershing General Hospital for treatment.

After leaving the freeway, residents at the scene said the pickup cleared a 20-foot-wide irrigation ditch before colliding with a steel billboard support near a residential area at the end of Cessna Lane.

After calling 911, residents who tried to help the victim said he was conscious but bleeding and appeared to have serious internal and leg injuries. Some residents were thankful the truck collided with the billboard and not one of their homes.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Peterson said the victim was wearing a seatbelt and both air bags deployed during the accident.
