A driver using a cell phone hit and injured a pedestrian crossing Winnemucca Boulevard on Tuesday evening. According to witnesses, a woman was pushing a stroller across Winnemucca Boulevard at about 6:30 p.m. when she was hit by a black sedan driven by Kandylaria Jensen, 23. Jensen was attempting to make a left turn from Hanson Street onto Winnemucca Boulevard. Witnesses said Jensen was using her cell phone at the time the accident occurred.
The victim was treated on scene by emergency medical services and later transported to Humboldt General Hospital. The child in the stroller was unharmed and released to the father, after being examined by EMS at the scene. The female victim's name and medical condition were not released.
While an investigation into the accident is ongoing, Winnemucca Police officials said Jensen would be cited with failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and use of a handheld wireless communications device. The Nevada Highway Patrol is assisting in the investigation.[[In-content Ad]]
