WINNEMUCCA - After taking the winter months off, the Humboldt County Rodeo Club was back in action on Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24, to begin the spring schedule of the Nevada High School Rodeo Association.

Savannah Montero had a handful of top-10 finishes, including a victory in the March 24 goat tying with a time of 7.83 seconds. In addition, she was fourth in the March 24 breakaway roping in a time of 5.21.

Montero started out the weekend with top-10 outings on March 23, finishing second in the goat tying at 8.82, to go with a seventh-place finish in the girls cutting with a score of 67.

Scores were hard to come by in the rough stock events as Luke Logan won the March 24 performance of saddle bronc with a score of 65. Logan was the only competitor to stay on for the full eight seconds in either performance. There were no qualified rides in the March 23 performance.

Luke Logan joined Jake Logan in the team roping and the duo finished in the top five on both days. They finished fifth on March 23 with a time of 15.15 and they jumped to the runner-up spot on March 24 in a time of 9.78, just .47 seconds off the winning time.

Emalee Brown posted two top-10 finishes in the breakaway, placing third on March 24 at 4.87 and she was eighth in the opening performance in a time of 5.62.

Matt Ourada and Josh Dufurrena were ninth and 10th in the March 24 calf roping with times of 20.42 and 21.17, respectively. The duo began the weekend with a seventh-place outing in the team roping on March 23 with a time of 17.94.

Rachel Hendrix and Dakota Feyder were named the all-around cowgirl and all-around cowboy, respectively, on March 23. Randi Buchanan and Wyatt Denny were the reserve cowgirl and cowboy and Abby Estes and Ross Hendrix won the rookie honors.

On March 24, Randi Buchanan and Dakota Feyder won all-around cowgirl and cowboy honors. Aspyn Civil and Denny claimed the reserve honors an, Emille Barnes and Cord Hendrix took the rookie awards.

The club was off this past weekend due to the Easter holiday and returns to action this weekend with a three-day competition in Yerington, starting on Friday with the cutting competition. The remainder of the rodeo begins on Saturday morning.[[In-content Ad]]
