Montero finishes fourth in goat tying at National High School Finals Rodeo

WINNEMUCCA - After more than 10 months of action, the high school rodeo season came to an end Saturday night for the Humboldt County Rodeo Club, with Savannah Montero finished fourth in the goat tying at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo.

Montero had cleans runs in all three of her performances in goat tying to earn an average of 24.67 seconds. Teisha Coffield of Yuma, Colo., was first with an average of 23.16, while Quincy Pendergrass of Adrian, Ore., (23.55) and Janey Reeves of Melba, Idaho, (23.77) were second and third, respectively.

Last Thursday night, Montero won her performance of the goat tying with a time of 7.97 seconds and she finished seventh in the second go-around.

After receiving a score of 65 in the first go-around of the saddle bronc, Cole Stremler did not stay on his bronc for the full eight seconds in his second performance this past Saturday night. Stremler finished 18th overall.

For the second consecutive performance, Clay Stremler did not record a score in the saddle bronc competition.

Texas won the team championship with 10,330 points, Idaho was second at 8,124 and Colorado as third with 6,512 points. California (6,445) and Oklahoma (5,770) rounded out the top five. Nevada was 16th with 2,258 points.

For the third year in a row, Garrett Smith from Rexburg, Idaho, was the all-around cowboy with 1,690 points.

Brody Adams from St. George, Utah, was second at 770 and Bryce Howe (695) from Crossroads, N.M., was third. Felton Nelson (640) of Iowa Falls, Iowa was fourth and Keely Bonnett of Ponoka, Alberta, Canada and Jake Cruzan of Cortez, Colo., tied for fifth with 540 points apiece.

Raelee Self of Powderly, Texas, was crowned the all-around cowgirl champion with 1,230 points. Janey Reeves (1,100) from Melba, Idaho, was second and Sissy Winn (1,050) of Chapman Ranch, Texas, placed third. Teisha Coffield (840) of Yuma, Colo., was fourth at 840 and Fallon's Rachel Hendrix was the highest Nevada placer in fifth.[[In-content Ad]]
