WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt County's Savannah Montero sits in fifth-place in goat tying after the first go-around of the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo., which was completed on Wednesday morning.
Montero had the third-best score in her performance on Tuesday morning with a time of 7.88 seconds. Quincy Pendergrass of Adrian, Ore. won the performance that Montero was in with a time of 7.31. Leigh Ann Scribner of Edgewood, N.M. was second at 7.49.
Pendegrass and Scribner are currently first and second after the first go-around as well. Four of the top-10 times came in Montero's performance on Tuesday morning.
Montero made her second run of the week in goat tying on Thursday evening, but results were not available at press time.
Cole Stremler finished ninth in the saddle bronc after the first go-around and was fifth in his Monday evening performance with 65 points. Rusty Wright of Milford, Utah, won the performance that Stremler was in with 74 points. Clayton Brum of Lockeford, Calif., was second at 71.
Stremler competes for the second time on Friday morning.
Clay Stremler is also competing in the saddle bronc but did not record a score in his first performance on Monday morning. He will look to record a score in his second performance on Friday night.
