BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Missoula Children's Theater is rehearsing this week for the presentation of the "The Tortoise and the Hare" on April 6 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Battle Mountain Civic Center.
"We are hoping the community will support us like it usually does packing the house both times," said Ami Rogers, president of the Battle Mountain Arts Presenters (BMAP), which is hosting the event.
Auditions were held April 1 at the civic center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and children from kindergarten through 12th grade are rehearsing each day this week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the civic center up until April 5, Rogers said. This week is their spring break.
"It is really amazing to come out and see how hard the kids work to memorize an entire play and a musical score in less than a week," Rogers said.
The prices are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, $20 for families and free for children ages 4 and under.
The Missoula Children's Theater travels all over bringing children's performances each year to communities nationwide that are directed by professionals who also perform in the plays.
The children's theater has been coming to Battle Mountain for more than a decade. It is BMAP's biggest expense at $3,500. Admission fees go toward offsetting the cost of the event, Rogers explained. There is no cost to the children who participate.
Funders of the event include the Nevada Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, Newmont, Barrick, Goldcorp and Wells Fargo.
Last year, the children performed "King Arthur's Quest" and featured around 55 local children. Both performances drew packed crowds, Rogers said.[[In-content Ad]]
