Missoula Children's Theater auditions Monday

Let down your hair and try out for a role

"Rapunzel," the long-haired damsel of fairy tale fame, is coming to Winnemucca with two performances by the Missoula Children's Theater (MCT) and local youths on Saturday, July 26 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

In the Grimm Brothers' story, a girl named Rapunzel is taken from parents by a witch and kept in a tower, which can only be accessed by using Rapunzel's long tresses as a sort of rope ladder. A prince comes along, as princes often do, and climbs her hair after uttering the immortal line, "Rapunzel, let down your hair."

The two escape the witch and the tower, and, of course, they live happily ever after.

Auditions for MCT's "Rapunzel," begin Monday, July 21 at 10 a.m. and will be held at the Winnemucca Grammar School.

Students entering first grade in August through 2014 graduates may participate and must be available all week for rehearsals. Students should bring a sack lunch and a bottle of water to the auditions on Monday.

Fees are $25 for the first child in a family and $20 for each additional child in the same family.

"Cousins count," said Jean Kinney, the hometown chair for MCT.

The group recently performed the well-received "Wizard of Oz" with 59 Winnemucca children. Kinney said this was the third or fourth year that the MCT offered a second summer performance.

"Some kids miss it because of sports camps, summer school or family vacations," said Kinney.

With enough interest from the students, a second summer performance was added.[[In-content Ad]]
