Missing teen may be headed to McDermitt

Fourteen-year-old Trenton Crutcher, of McDermitt, ran away from a treatment facility in Colorado late at night on July 27 and may be heading to northern Nevada. The teen's family would like help in locating Crutcher.

The boy is described as Native American, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing about 180 pounds. He has a scar above his left eye, and a birthmark behind his right ear. With family in Winnemucca and McDermitt, Cherie Crutcher said her son might be on his way to northern Nevada.

She said she was contacted on July 27 around 11 p.m. by a representative of Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center, and was told that Trenton, along with two other boys, had run away from the facility.

"I don't know why he ran away. Maybe he just went along with the other boys," said Crutcher. "I'm very worried."

Cañon City Police officials said Crutcher and two 16-year-old boys had run away from the treatment facility. Police could not comment further on a case involving juveniles, but said teens run away frequently from Southern Peaks RTC because it is not a locked-down facility.

Karen Meyer of Ft. McDermitt Paiute-Shoshone Tribe social services said a flier with information on the missing teen was circulating around Cañon City, and also on Facebook, but she could not comment further because of client confidentiality issues. Representatives of Southern Peaks RTC would not comment.

According to its website, Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center is a residential treatment center offering specialized behavioral health programs for teens. It is located in the foothills of southern Colorado, in Cañon City.

According to the flier, anyone with information is asked to contact Cañon City Police at (719) 276-5608; Ft. McDermitt Social Services at (775) 532-8263 extension 108; or Southern Peaks RTC at (719) 276-7500.

"I love him, I miss him, and I wish he'd call me," said Crutcher. "I want him to come home safely, and I just keep waiting to hear from him but I haven't."[[In-content Ad]]
