WINNEMUCCA - Three local girls will compete for Miss Winnemucca High Desert Rodeo Queen this Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Winnemucca Events Complex in the 4-H meeting room.
The girls will be required to compete in the categories of personal interview, speech, modeling, appearance, photogenics and horsemanship. The public is invited to see the speech and modeling portion of the contest, along with a luncheon at noon. Tickets for the luncheon are $10 each and can be purchased from any one of the contestants or bought at the door.
The horsemanship will immediately follow the modeling in the Main Arena at 2:30 p.m. Three local judges will choose the next Miss Winnemucca High Desert Rodeo Queen to represent Winnemucca and Humboldt County as the ambassador of rodeo to the general public, portraying excellence in sportsmanship, high moral and ethical character, and reflecting careful and humane treatment of animals. She is the ideal All-American girl who will gather the richest experience of her life and lay the foundation for her future.
Upon coronation, the new queen will assume her duties by making at least five local or state appearances which will include the Winnemucca Ranch Hand Rodeo, the American West Barrel Races, the Tri-County Fair and Rodeo, the Christmas Parade of Lights and many others.
Bailey Reynolds
Bailey Reynolds is the 11-year-old daughter of Fawn Reynolds of Winnemucca. She is a fifth-grader attending French Ford Middle School. Her scholastic awards include two first-place Community Arts Awards. Her favorite hobbies include barrel racing, art and music. Last year she was the second place finisher in the American West 4D Barrel Racing Association in the youth division. Locally she placed third in the Winnemucca Barrel Racing Association in the youth division.
Her ambitions in life include doing her best in school and working hard to get good grades. She wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up and continue with her barrel racing. She hopes to become a professional barrel racer in the future and train her own barrel racing horses.
Reynolds wants to become Miss Winnemucca High Desert Rodeo Queen to represent her community and the sport of rodeo. She wants to set a good example by doing her best in everything she is involved in and to encourage others to do the same.
Maclyn Crnkovich
Maclyn Crnkovich is the 13-year-old daughter of Dana Mariluch of Winnemucca. She is currently an eighth-grader attending Winnemucca Junior High School. She is an advanced student and is currently enrolled in advanced English.
As a freshman in high school next year, she wants to take the Honors English Class. Crnkovich is proudly an honor roll student, having a 3.8 GPA. As a sixth grader she received an award for having the highest score on the writing test. Crnkovich wants to graduate from high school with a 4.0 GPA and then attend the University of Austin Texas. Upon completion of her college degree, she wants to start a ranch in Texas.
Her hobbies include playing basketball, volleyball and rodeo. She wants to become Miss Winnemucca High Desert Rodeo Queen because she wants to represent Winnemucca in a positive and outgoing way.
Sarah Rogers
Sarah Rogers is the 13-year-old daughter of John and Katherine Rogers. She is currently an eighth grader attending Winnemucca Junior High School. She is in advanced band and carries a 3.6 GPA. Rogers has been on the WJHS Honor Roll for the past two semesters. Last year she placed first in the 4D youth for the local Winnemucca Barrel Racing Association.
Rogers' hobbies include participating in Junior Rodeo, and the Humboldt County Junior High School Rodeo Team in the events of barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. She is part of the Mounted Unit with the Carson City Sheriff Office and the Humboldt County Search and Rescue team. Her scholastic ambitions are to maintain a 3.5 or above GPA throughout the remaining school years so that she will qualify to attend veterinary school. She knows how competitive this field of study can be.
Rogers would like to become Miss Winnemucca High Desert Rodeo Queen to represent Winnemucca and Humboldt County in true western horsemanship, in honest leadership and with a great amount of community pride.
