It is almost two weeks until Christmas and I continue to be busy visiting children from all over the world. The children from northern Nevada are some of my very favorite children and I really enjoy reading the letters from all the children who write to me at askmrsclaus@gmail.com. So far, I have been able to send e-mailed answers back to all the children whose letters I have received and I will keep on trying to do so as promptly as possible throughout the Christmas season.
I really enjoy these letters, so I thought that I would share a few with you.
Seven-year-old Gianni Giordano writes: "Hello Mrs. Claus, I was wondering if Santa has any white reindeer? Thank you for taking care of Santa Claus. "
Your question had me consulting with the elves and visiting with our many reindeer (we have many more than pull the sleigh, you know). Here at the North Pole we do have some Peary Caribou (which are the whitest of all the reindeer), but we have a few other types of reindeer that are darker as well. The reindeer's coat color changes a bit with the seasons too, so sometimes they look lighter than other times. Did you know that the reindeer's coat has two layers of fur, a really heavy woolly undercoat and longer-haired overcoat that is made of hollow, air-filled hairs? This is how our reindeer stay dry and warm in the cold temperatures of the North Pole.
The elves wanted me to tell you (since you live in Nevada) that at one time - a very long time ago - that reindeer actually lived in Nevada. In fact, as late as 200 years ago, reindeer were found in your neighboring state of Idaho! Is it any wonder that our reindeer love delivering gifts to your area? It is like going home to them!
Six-year-old Marquette Cassinelli writes: "How are your reindeer? How is Rudolph? I want a big teddy bear. And I love Santa and I love you, Mrs. Claus. And I love to be with other people and I love other people. And I love my mom and dad. And please bring my dog Rocco a bone."
The reindeer are getting very excited - Christmas is close! Rudolph is on standby for bad weather and all the reindeer are practicing their flying techniques. I passed on your Teddy Bear request to Santa and he smiled (so I believe that request was already on his list). Apparently Santa is aware of Rocco's desires as well - so don't worry. We have dogs of our own here at our home at the North Pole! Santa and I want you to know that all the nice things that you do for your family and friends have been noted and we are so proud of you!
Seven-year-old Tristan Cassinelli writes: "What I want for Christmas is real tools and a new toy for my dog Rocco. I want to know about your reindeer and I want to see your reindeer."
I have a special message from our head elf for you. He said to tell you that he really enjoyed hearing your request for real tools and was curious to hear what you planned to do with them. You can write me back and let me know and I will take the message to him.
We have many different types of reindeer in this area of the North Pole. Reindeer are very beautiful and unfortunately most of them do not fly, so unless you visit the North Pole, you will not be able to see the reindeer that live with us. There is hope to see reindeer, however, as some zoos have reindeer and the country of Canada has them, so if you travel a little way from home, you might get to meet one of our reindeer's cousins. You will know they are related because when you speak to them, they look at you and wink! That is their way of letting you know that they see you and understand what you are saying.
Santa is very aware of Rocco. It always warms Santa's heart when he sees children that love their pets as we do! Rocco is a very lucky dog to have a family that loves dogs so much!
Do not forget to write back as our head elf will not forget and is waiting for your message.
"Dear Head Elf, I am going to use my tools to make a wood box, because I want to make a pencil rail to hold my pencils. I want to build a garage for my trucks and to build my go-cart."
I took your message right over to the head elf. He was very excited as he also is a builder. He said to tell you he thinks you are very special (Santa and I already knew that) and that he knows that you will do great things!
Oh my, look at the time! I must run. Don't forget to write. We will be touring northern Nevada off and on for the next two weeks. I look forward to seeing you then!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Claus
