Dan McVey was born on Dec. 6, 1972, in Reno. He is the father to five daughters, including Sammantha, 17, Taylor, 16, Alex, 14, Devan, 14 and Isabelle, 9.
His daughters are involved in a combination of Honor Society, Leadership (two daughters are class officers), cheerleading (3) and Art Club (one). All are volunteers for the Family Readiness Group of Winnemucca.
His oldest will be a senior next year. His second to oldest just went to state for two events in track.
McVey is married to Roni McVey, a math teacher at Winnemucca Junior High School and president of the Winnemucca Family Readiness Group.
McVey is an avid motorcyclist, a hobby he enjoys with his daughters, wife and father. He also enjoys shooting and hunting, especially teaching and practicing with his daughters.
McVey is the regional safety & health coordinator for Southwest Gas. He has a Bachelor's degree in Business management and technology. He served in the military for 16 years: nine with the 1st/121st Cavalry in Fallon, seven with the 593rd Medium Transportation Company in Winnemucca.
McVey was a saddle bronc rider for seven years in the PRCA. In 1994 he was the All-Around Champion at the Rough Stock Invitational in Laughlin for saddle bronc and bull riding. In addition, McVey has been in the horse shoeing/training business for 17 years.
McVey dedicates his time outside of work to his family. He supports his girls with their academics and extra-curricular activities whenever he can. Between his work and the military there are few weekends he has completely open for himself and his family. To make up for this it isn't unusual for him to take his daughters off to lunch or dinner for one on one time.
McVey works hard to do the best he can at work and with the military while also balancing a loving family, making sure that none are neglected. Although he is given projects/responsibilities suddenly as they arise, he always manages to come through and get things done efficiently. This applies to all aspects of his life from his family schedule, work and military.
McVey followed in his father Ed's footsteps by going into the military. Ed served in the Army and with the 101st Infantry.
McVey is also a reverend as of 2010.
