McDermitt's Wilkinson named Division IV East Player of Year

WINNEMUCCA - McDermitt High School's Staheli Wilkinson was chosen as the Division IV East volleyball Player of the Year, by the league's coaches.

The Lady Bulldogs finished first in the Division IV East this fall with an 8-2 record and reached the Division IV Regional Championships. McDermitt defeated Mineral County in the quarterfinals of the regional tourney, but lost to Smith Valley in the semifinals.

Her teammates, Chandra Catches and Sharon Sherburn, joined Wilkinson on the first team.

Owyhee's Chela Joseph, Wells' Alyse Armstrong and Eureka's Ashlee Ketzenberg were the remaining first-team selections.

Eureka's Katie Benson was named Coach of the Year and Eureka and Wells earned the sportsmanship award.

Wells' Ericka Pengally, Colleen Fitzgerald and Jaqueline Huff were picked for the second team, along with Owyhee's Monique Gartiez, Carlin's Whitney Armstrong and Jackpot's Mariela Cortes and Marissa Garrett.

Freshman Va Draunidalo made her way onto the honorable mention squad for the Lady Bulldogs. In addition, Eureka's Beth Damele and Amanda Ketzenberg, Wells' Rachel Johnny and Haley Skinner and Owyhee's Mariah Mouse were named to the honorable mention team.
