McDermitt's Crutcher named Division IV East Player of the Year

McDermitt High School senior Sonny Crutcher was named the Division IV East Player of the Year, which is chosen by the league's six coaches at the end of the regular season.

Crutcher averaged 15 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.3 assists a game. He helped the Bulldogs to a 16-10 record, including a second-place finish in the league at 7-3. The Bulldogs reached the semifinals of the Division IV East Regional Tournament this season.

Eureka's Elmer Porter was named Coach of the Year and Carlin was awarded the Sportsmanship award.

Along with Crutcher, the first-team, all-league squad was dotted with players from three schools. McDermitt's TJ Smith joined Crutcher on the first team, as the senior averaged 10.5 points and 7.2 rebounds a game.

The second team was comprised of Eureka's Paul Padilla and Nick Gordon, Owyhee's Lucas Thomas and Carlin's Kade Armstrong.

The Bulldogs' Saul Lopez was named to the honorable mention squad. He scored 9.5 points a game to go with 2.4 steals and 2.3 assists. The remainder of that group included Owyhee's Jace Jones, Wells' Joey Gardner, Eureka's Clancy Talbot and Jackpot's Jorge Puente.
