The McDermitt High School volleyball team closed out its regular season last Thursday with a pair of road losses to Owyhee.
The Braves claimed the first match of the doubleheader 25-16 and 25-18 and won the second 25-13 and 25-15. Despite the losses, the Lady Bulldogs finished fourth in the Division IV East at 6-6 and will be the No. 4 seed from the East in the Division IV Regional Championships that get underway today at Elko High School.
McDermitt will play Smith Valley, the regular season champs in the Division IV West at 16-0, at 8 p.m. If the Lady Bulldogs win, they play the winner of Owyhee/Sierra Lutheran at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. The championship is scheduled for 2 p.m.
There was a three-way for first place in the Division IV East this year with Wells, Owyhee and Eureka finishing with 10-2 records. Wells was awarded first place on the tiebreaker.
Eureka and Virginia City kickoff the day at 3 p.m. and Wells and Whittell play in the other quarterfinal in the top half of the bracket.
The two finalists advance to the state championships to be played in Reno on Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15, at Wooster and Galena high schools.[[In-content Ad]]
