WINNEMUCCA - The McDermitt High School track and field team got its season started last week with meets in Idaho and Oregon.

The Bulldogs traveled to Parma, Idaho, on Tuesday, April 9, for the Parma Invitational, which featured nearly 20 schools.

Fruitland (Idaho) won the boys team title with 164 points, while Ontario (Ore.) was second at 79.5. Payette (71), Marsing (66) and Nyssa (65) rounded out the top five.

Payette claimed the girls team championship with 116 and Fruitland and Parma were second and third with 83 and 82, points, respectively. Liberty Charter (72) and Ontario (66) were fourth and fifth.

Andrea Smart led the Lady Bulldogs with a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 27 feet, 5.25 inches. The freshman added a 24th-place finish in the discus at 63-6.

Va Draunidalo placed eighth in the 800 meters in a time of 3 minutes, 2.19 seconds, 10th in the high jump as she cleared 4-0 and the freshman was 39th in the discus at 53-6.

On the boys side, Tyler Coble finished 14th in the discus with a throw of 109-0 and 17th in the triple jump at 33-4.25. Hawk Urban was 30th in the shot put (32.7.50) and 38th in the discus (89-5).

McDermitt was back on the road on Saturday to take part in the Burns Lions Invitational.

Smart was the only competitor for the Lady Bulldogs as she finished 16th in the shot put with a toss of 25-8 and 21st in the discus at 61-9.

Vale won the girls team championship with 188 points, while host Burns was second at 125. Lakeview (77), Crane (57) and Triad Christian (49) completed the top five.

Coble provided the best finish for the boys squad, placing seventh in the discus at 10-4. Brendan Wilson finished 10th in the 1,500 meters in a time of 5 minutes, 34.52 seconds. The junior added a 15th-place finish in the long jump at 14-50.

Hawk Urban was 17th in the javelin with a throw of 95-0 and the sophomore posted a pair of 21st-place finishes in the shot put (31-5) and the discus (85-11).

McDermitt travels back to Oregon on Saturday for the Crane Invitational at 11 a.m.
