The McDermitt and Lowry high school basketball teams were on the road this past weekend, with mixed results.
The McDermitt girls stayed undefeated in the Division IV east at 5-0 and improved to 15-3 overall with a 55-47 victory over Eureka, the defending regional champions. The Lady Bulldogs have sole possession of first place in the league by two games.
The Bulldog boys suffered their first league loss of the season, falling 71-52 to Eureka this past Friday night on the Vandals' home floor. McDermitt is currently tied for first place in the Division IV East at 4-1, along with Eureka.
The Lowry High School boys bounced back to pick up a pair of wins to stay in a tie for second place in the Division I-A North with Spring Creek at 8-2. The Buckaroos knocked off South Tahoe 58-48 on Friday night and Dayton 64-41 on Saturday to improve to 6-0 in road games in league play. Lowry was coming off two consecutive losses at home.
The Lowry girls basketball team vaulted to 10-0 in the Division I-A North with easy victories over the weekend. The Lady Bucks beat South Tahoe 40-21 on Friday and Dayton 53-17 on Saturday. The Dust Devils scored just six points in the first half. Dating back to last year, Lowry has won its last 19 league games.
The Lady Bucks own a two-game lead over Elko and Churchill County in the race for the regular season championship. Lowry still plays Churchill County at home and Elko on the road to close out the regular season.
