After playing three weeks in a row on its home field, the McDermitt High School football team took to the road last Friday to play Eureka.
The Bulldogs fell 62-12 to the Vandals and dropped to 0-3 in the Division IV East and 2-3 overall. McDermitt was without three starters on the night.
"Not having them hurt us," said MHS coach Richard Egan. "It was a chance for the younger players to get a lot of playing time. The big difference was on the offensive and defensive lines. Eureka controlled the line of scrimmage and pushed us around."
Sonny Crutcher had an 80-yard kickoff return for the Bulldogs for one of the scores. Most 8-man fields are 80 yards, but the field in Eureka is 100.
Frank Muratore scored the other touchdown on a short run, after getting brought down after a long run on the play before.
"Sonny has the capability to make that big play," Egan said. "Frank is a kid that has been running hard for us and takes it right to the defense."
McDermitt's game at Carlin was moved up to Thursday night and results were not available at press time. The Bulldogs are back on the road on Friday, Oct. 17, for a match-up with Wells at 7 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
