McDermitt football team drops home finale to Wells JV

Bulldogs finished season on Thursday

WINNEMUCCA - After being shutout in its first two games of season, the McDermitt High School football team provided its best performance of the season in its home finale on Friday, Oct. 11, against the Wells JV.

The Leopards came away with a 34-26 victory, but MHS head coach Richard Egan said the Bulldogs (0-3) had their chances to win the game.

"The kids came out and played tough," said Egan. "Looking at the film, we missed a couple of passes down the field that we could have scored. That just comes with time. It was our best effort of the year and we had a good practice leading up to the game."

Tyler Coble scored a pair of touchdowns for McDermitt, while Brendan Wilson and Frank Muratore each scored one touchdown.

The coach noted the Bulldogs played well on defense with Ellison Tom and Muratore collecting 17 tackles apiece.

"We did a good job on defense," Egan said. "The kids went out there and made some plays."

The Bulldogs, who are playing this year as an independent, closed out the season on Thursday night with a game against the Wells JV. Results were not available at press time. With the year complete, McDermitt will be able to rejoin the Division IV East next season.

"Hopefully, we can get the numbers back up," Egan said. "It was nice to get back on the field after missing last year. The boys have been going to practice every day and are working hard."
