Jan. 10, 1935 - July 8, 2013
Max Joseph Rogers was born to Joseph R. Rogers and Irene Winn Kay on January 10, 1935, in Milford, Utah. He spent most of his childhood in Holliday, Utah, with his two stepsisters, Sandra Godwin and Meda Bateman.
He met his future bride, Lorna (Garfield) Rogers at a track meet when he was a junior in high school. He won the race and Lorna's heart. They were married on Aug. 19, 1953, and their union was sealed in the St. George Temple on Aug. 19, 1971. They enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage and welcomed 15 children into their happy home.
The Rogers family moved to Battle Mountain in 1970 to run the Best Western Big Chief Motel. It was not long after that Max accepted a position with Battle Mountain Gold. He retired after driving truck there for 26 years. Not one to rest on his laurels, Max worked as the maintenance man at the Broyles Ranch Apartments for a couple of years and he spent the last several years performing maintenance work at the Owl Club.
He enjoyed working at the Owl Club and made friends on a daily basis. Max had an unparalleled work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit. He built, owned and operated a fabric shop, video store, and miniature golf course. They were family run businesses that Max took great pride in.
Max was not only an amazing husband and father, he also spent countless hours fulfilling church callings, coaching tee ball, umpiring and refereeing youth sports, and vocally supporting the high school athletic teams from the stands. He never passed up an opportunity to root on the Utah Jazz or talk politics with passersby. He was always surrounded by family and friends, having touched far too many to name with his kind spirit.
On July 8, 2013, after courageously battling cancer for three years, Max was called home to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. He is preceded in death by his sons, Kelly and Brandan. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorna, 13 children, 51 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way). Max is survived by wife Lorna, sisters Sandra Godwin and Meda Bateman (Lynn), and children Julie Street (David), Karry Rogers, Jody Rogers (Tonia), Corie Waddoups, Randy Rogers (Ida), Ricky Rogers (Brenda), Rusty Rogers (Serena), Stephanie Carter (Dana), Kimberly Whitehead (Shane), Courtney Rogers (Ami), Jennifer Rogers, Tiffney Rueben (Kenny), and Ashlee Bundrock (Ryan).
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Battle Mountain Civic Center. Anyone who knew Max or was touched by his kind spirit is invited to come celebrate his life.[[In-content Ad]]
