Mary was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, teacher, and a mentor. She was a great example of unselfish love for all. Mary grew up on a dairy farm in Minnesota, which is where her love of music began. Mary has been a music teacher for K-12 grade students in the Pershing County School District for 26 years. She also taught music in North Dakota and Montana. She was an active part in several organizations, National Music Educators, Northern Nevada Music Association, Pershing County Classroom Teacher Association, small schools Honor Band and All-State Honor Band and Choir. She also taught private music lessons. She loved her students and strived to make their lives better through music. Mary was active in her church, Grace St. Francis Methodist Church, where she also played piano. Mary was an avid UNR football game fan, she never missed a home game.
Mary is survived be her husband James Ryan, Lovelock; sister Kathy Mohs (Ron), Deer Creek, Minn.; brother Rick, Deer Creek, Minn.; brother Jerome (LeAnn), Lincoln, Neb.; daughter Karissa Perry (Michael) Surprise, Ariz., sons: Zachary Melendrez (Jeanne), Texas; William Ryan (Janelle), Colorado; James Ryan JR. (Patricia), Reno; and son-in-law Steve Burns, Superior, Colo. She has 6 nieces and 7 nephews, and 16 grandchildren. Mary loved and was loved by all of her family, friends, and students.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at the Pershing County High School Gym. Burial followed at Big Meadow Cemetery.
