Mario Peraldo, longtime local farmer, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the hospital in Fallon. Mario was born on July 4, 1918, to Emilio and Emma Peraldo in Paradise Valley, Nev. In 1920, he moved with his family to the farm northeast of Fallon where he would live and work for most of his life. All of his schooling was completed in Fallon, and in 1937 he graduated from Churchill County High School and received the American Future Farmers of America Degree Award. Also in 1937, he married Olga Forgnone and moved to Paradise Valley, where Mario worked as a cowboy and ranchhand. In 1940, Mario and Olga returned to the farm in Fallon, and with his brother, Silvio, took over operation of the farm after their father's death.
In addition to farm work, Mario was an active member of Farm Bureau, a member of the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District Board of Directors from 1948 to 1956, and a Churchill County Commissioner from November of 1971 until December of 1980. In 1988, Mario and Olga moved to a residence in town, but Mario continued to work on the farm until complete retirement in 2009 at the age of 91.
Mario was preceded in death by his father and mother; sisters Josephine Plummer, Adele Serpa/LaCombe, and Caroline Nation; brother Silvio Peraldo; and wife of 72 years, Olga Peraldo. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mario G. and Lynn Peraldo of Fallon, Nev.; granddaughters Gina Peraldo of Reno, Nev., Vanessa Koepsell (Timothy) of Seattle, Wash., Melissa Tibay (Job) of New York City, New York; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A man of motivation and integrity who enjoyed family, friends, and music, the pleasure of his presence will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him. An open house for family and friends to celebrate Mario's life will be held at 4335 Peraldo Lane, Fallon, Nev., Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
