Marie S. Zabala, 100 a life long resident of Winnemucca died at her home on Aug. 12, 2011. Marie was born in Winnemucca to Bruno and Candida McErguiaga. She was the first of twelve children. She was raised at Horse Creek Ranch in Kings River Valley where she attended school. She moved to town where she worked for her Uncle Vic.
She met and married Justo and they moved to the Garden Ranch where she had three of her six children. They then moved to Winnemucca and ran the Martin Hotel. She worked many different jobs and raised her children in tough times. She lived in her house over sixty five years. Marie was always a very strong independent woman and had a great sense of humor. Her house was always the hub of activity and she had friends of all ages. She especially loved babies, flowers, cooking, sewing and other handy work. She will be missed and always loved by her family and friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents, one sister, seven brothers, two sons and one grandson.
Marie is survived by three daughters; Gloria Tomesini, Rita Chapin (Harold), Sara Ghrist (Roger), and son Ray (Bonnie), ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
The rosary will be at 9:30AM Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Winnemucca Cemetery.
