Margaret Morris Letter to the Editor

Editor:

Just over a year ago my husband retired and I had to find a new doctor. I went to the walk in clinic and asked several questions. Could I use them as my primary care and do they take Medicare were just two of those questions. I was told yes to both of those. Now I am being told they can no longer be my primary care and I must find another doctor. The clinic gave me a list of doctors in Winnemucca and I called each and every one. Either they do not take Medicare or they are not taking new patients.

New we have three PA's in Winnemucca and I am told they can take care of me. Why must I go to a PA (I have nothing against them) and not a doctor? Why are doctors not accepting Medicare in a town that is full of senior citizens? When did doctors quit caring about the patient and start caring about the almighty dollar?

And I am not the only one with this problem. I have talked to a lot of seniors in Winnemucca that have been using the walk in clinic and now can't. And if we do go to the walk in clinic just to have prescriptions written, they will only write the prescriptions for one month with no refills. This is ridiculous. Who wants to go to the doctor once a month just to get new prescriptions?
