The Humboldt County community health nursing office would like to thank members of the Winnemucca community for their role in the drive-thru flu event held on Sept. 29.
Our 26 volunteers who showed up to help that day included representatives from Lowry High School, Maeve Donovan, Calvin Conners, Michael Billingsley, Paige Thiede, Marc Esquivel, Celeste Esquivel, Daniel Pollock and Nate Eldodt; the Humboldt General Hospital EMS Team, Louis Mendolia , Stephanie Huseboe and Ken Whittaker; the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, Winnemucca Police Department, Lovelock and Battle Mountain CHN offices and other individual volunteers, Bonnie and Kelley Stockman from Pershing County, Brenda Keller and Reita Newgard from Lander County, Maria Ruelas of the Lions Club, Cindy Cutler of the Frontier Community Coalition and Angela Tommila. Also a big thank you to those who fed the volunteers; Pizza Hut, Round Table, Spare Time Bowling, The Winnemucca Pizzeria, Walmart, Third Street Bistro, Uptown Market, Udderly Delicious Cookies, Frito-Lay, Great Basin Beverage and Wade Distributing. Thank you to the Humboldt Sun, KWNA Radio and Silver Pinyon Journal for help in getting the word out there.
Also, thank you to the businesses who displayed our fliers, Pizza Hut for allowing us to send them out on pizza boxes, Winnemucca Inn for placing it on their marquee and the Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority for their signage and use of the Indoor Event Center. Also, thanks to Doug Cain for securing the event center for the drive-thru and to R.J. Savoie for acting as the incident commander of the event. Thanks to all of these partners, we were able to vaccinate more than 600 citizens against this year's strains of influenza. This community can really pull together when needed. Thank You.
