Manuel Huerta

Manuel J. Huerta, 82, passed from this life into eternity March 18, 2013. Manuel was preceded to eternity by his lifelong companion and wife, Concepcion Huerta. He is known by their children as "Dad" and by their numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Grandpa." He leaves behind children, Connie Lyttle, Lu Ely, Manuel Huerta, Jr., Raquel Fooshee, Felicia Huerta, and Alex Huerta; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and nine siblings.

Manuel was born in the railroad town of Oreana, Nev., in 1930 to Manuel and Delores Huerta and spent his childhood along the same railroad corridor in nearby Lovelock.

Growing up near the rails ensured he'd work for the railroad, which he did as a laborer until his country called him about the time of the Korean War, when he became a soldier in the U.S. Army. He retired from the military shortly thereafter a disable American veteran, met and married his wife of 56 years, and together raised a family who loved him for his kindness and silly humor, and whom he kept amused throughout his life with his adventurous construction projects. Grandpa now walks the streets of gold with his Lord and Savior Jesus, and once again, in the companionship of his beloved "Concha." Funeral services were held Monday, March 25, at 10 a.m. in the Ross, Burke & Knobel Mortuary.
