Man who hit deputy changes plea to guilty

WINNEMUCCA - Sandoval Ezequiel Jacobo, who pleaded not guilty to burglary, battery with intent to commit a crime, battery upon an officer causing substantial bodily harm, attempted robbery, and indecent exposure in January, changed his plea Monday after negotiations with the district attorney's office.

According to a plea agreement filed on Oct. 24, Jacobo signed a guilty plea to battery upon an officer causing substantial bodily harm.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Whomes said at a hearing in Sixth District Court Monday that the other four charges would be dismissed upon sentencing.

According to court documents, Jacobo was arrested in August 2011 in Humboldt County for punching and/or twisting the arm of Humboldt County Sheriff's Deputy Kathy Green.

Jacobo originally entered a plea of not guilty to all charges and was found competent to stand trial. In September, Jacobo amended his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity.

Before accepting Jacobo's second change of plea, Judge Michael Montero made sure the defendant understood that the potential sentencing for the crime he was pleading guilty to is a minimum of two years in prison, a maximum of 10 years in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000. Montero said there is the potential for probation.

Montero accepted Jacobo's guilty plea to battery upon an officer causing substantial bodily harm, a category B felony, and sentencing was set for Jan. 14 at 3 p.m.
