WINNEMUCCA - Winnemucca police officers arrested a man last week on suspicion of threatening a woman with a knife with a 10-inch blade during an apparent domestic dispute.
Dusty Sam, 27, was taken into custody and transported to the Humboldt County Jail, where he was booked on charges of attempted murder, false imprisonment, interference with a 911 call, domestic battery and resisting arrest. Sam's bail was set at $216,627.
According to a news release, WPD officers were dispatched May 1 at about 11:30 p.m. to the 1200 block of East Second Street for a reported 911 hang up.
When WPD officers arrived they found the residence to be dark with no signs of occupancy. As the officers were leaving the scene they heard sounds of yelling and screaming coming from the residence located at 1287 E. Second St. The officers approached the residence to investigate the commotion and observed through a window an adult male suspect standing over an adult female. The female was lying on the floor on her left side with her right arm held up above her in a defensive posture. The male suspect later identified as Sam was allegedly standing over her head brandishing a very large knife. The knife blade was approximately 10 inches in length. It appeared to the officers on scene as if the male suspect was about to strike the female, according to WPD officials.
Upon observing this, WPD officers announced their presence and after multiple requests the male suspect exited the residence and was taken into custody after resisting the officers, according to the news release. He was taken to jail.
The victim was transported to Humboldt General Hospital via ambulance where she was treated for moderate injuries.
