A Las Vegas man was convicted of possession of a big game animal without a valid tag, a gross misdemeanor, in the Seventh Judicial District Court Feb. 14.
Nerces Sarkis Himidian, 68, was ordered upon conviction to pay a $1,000 fine and $2,500 in civil penalties to the Operation Game Thief (OGT) program.
"This particular area of Lincoln County can be a tempting target for illegal wildlife activity as hundreds of deer congregate in a relatively small area near Echo Canyon Reservoir. We keep a close eye on it before, during and after the mule deer hunting season," said Cameron Waithman, the investigating game warden stationed in Boulder City.
"The suspect clearly had no respect for the hunting ethic and big game regulations," said Rob Buonamici, chief game warden with Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW).
The original case stems from an incident that occurred in October of 2013. An NDOW game warden on patrol conducted an investigation on Himidian for a mule deer buck he killed in area 23, unit 231 near Echo Canyon Reservoir in Lincoln County. Himidian had an Area-6 antlered deer tag and killed the mule deer buck more than 200 miles from his legal hunting area.
The deer meat seized in the case will be donated to a local food bank.
