Man charged with battery with a deadly weapon in alleged Austin stabbing Preliminary hearing scheduled for May 3

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - A defendant in an alleged stabbing case appeared in the Austin Justice Court March 27 for a first appearance and a bail hearing, according to the court.

Richard Alan Joyner's bail was kept at $50,000 and he was assigned to public defender Ted Herrera. As of March 29, Joyner remained in jail.

Joyner, of Austin, was arrested March 20 for battery with a deadly weapon. According to Lander County Sheriff Ron Unger, Joyner allegedly stabbed a patron during a bar fight in Austin. Unger said the investigation is ongoing.

Joyner has been officially charged by the District Attorney's Office with battery with a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm, a category B felony.

According to the District Attorney's Office criminal complaint, which was filed March 22, on or about March 20, at or near The Pub Bar, 90 Main St., Austin, the defendant stabbed Kenneth L. Knight in the neck with a knife resulting in substantial bodily harm to the victim. Knight's condition was unknown.

Joyner's preliminary hearing was set for May 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the Austin Justice Court.
