WINNEMUCCA - Lane Charlie Tom was arrested in McDermitt Wednesday following an extensive investigation into a reported sexual assault that occurred on Sep. 1, according to a Winnemucca Police Department news release.
Tom was arrested on two failure to appear warrants and was served two additional warrants charging him with sexual assault with substantial bodily harm and kidnapping in the first degree.
At the time of the report, Detective Andy Rorex had no other information about the suspect other than a basic descpription, according to the news release. Rorex's investigation, along with the cooperation or local business owners, made it possible for him to acquire video and photographs of the suspect.
Based on the witness description, Rorex sought assistance from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office Northern Area Resident Deputies Kyle and Casey Negus. The deputies were able to identify a possible suspect, and then the suspect was confirmed by the witness in the case.
Deputies began a search for the suspect once he was identified and confirmed, and were able to locate and arrest Tom on two outstanding warrants for failure to appear. He was then transported to the Humboldt County Detention Center where Rorex served him with the additional warrants.
Bail was set at$500,827.
The success of this investigation is attributed to the diligent efforts and collaboration of the officers from the Winnemucca Police Department, deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, Advocates from Winnemucca Domestic Violence Shelter and assistance from members of the community.
