WINNEMUCCA - Michael Craig Deboer, of Utah, who was arrested May 13 after Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) troopers reportedly found 40.5 pounds of suspected marijuana in the vehicle, is scheduled for an arraignment in Justice Court in Winnemucca on June 24 at 9 a.m.

Deboer faces charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of marijuana and drugs not to be introduced into interstate commerce. He is currently out on $30,000 bail.

Deboer was arrested following a routine traffic stop by NHP Trooper Chris Meeks, who pulled his red Chevy Impala over for speeding on Interstate 80 near mile marker 192, according to the NHP arrest report. Meeks detected an odor of "raw marijuana" and became suspicious of the driver's activities during his interaction with him, according to the report.

Trooper Tim Raabe and his K9 Gripper were subsequently called to the scene, and Gripper was deployed with a positive alert. After a search warrant was applied for and granted, a search of the vehicle revealed two black duffel bags filled with individually packaged marijuana in the trunk, according to the report.

Deboer was arrested and transported to Humboldt County Detention Center, where he was booked on $30,000 bail. He posted bail the next day (May 14) and was released.

In an unrelated case, NHP arrested Stephen Ruempolhamer, of Iowa, on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and transporting a controlled substance on May 21.

The incident occurred when Raabe made a traffic stop for no registration on Interstate 80 near mile marker 167. According to the report, Raabe made contact with Ruempolhamer and became suspicious of criminal activity based on his observations.

Raabe asked Ruempolhamer if he could search the vehicle and was denied, according to the report. At that point, Raabe told the suspect he was free to go, but the vehicle was staying. Raabe deployed K9 Gripper who had a positive alert to the odor of narcotics on the vehicle.

According to the report, Raabe then obtained a search warrant and located four large vacuum sealed bags and two smaller vacuum sealed bags "containing what appeared to be marijuana." He also located a small black scale.

Ruempolhamer was then taken into custody, where he remained as of Wednesday, on $35,627 bail.
