WINNEMUCCA - A man was arrested Saturday following an automobile vs. pedestrian accident that left the victim on life support, according to a Winnemucca Police Department press release.
WPD officers responded to Khoury's Market parking lot on a report of the accident at approximately 6:55 a.m. When they arrived they found an elderly female lying on the ground breathing, but un-responsive.
The WPD's preliminary investigation revealed that a white Dodge pickup that had been traveling southbound on Grass Valley Road turned into the parking lot and allegedly struck the victim with the left front portion of the vehicle. The vehicle then came to a stop on top of the victim and had to be backed off of the victim by the driver.
The driver of the Dodge pickup was identified by the WPD as 30-year-old John M. Farley. During the course of the investigation it was revealed that Farley had allegedly been consuming an alcoholic beverage and was impaired. Farley was administered a set of field sobriety tests. The WPD said Farley did not complete these tests in a satisfactory manner and was subsequently taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Farley was transported to Humboldt General Hospital, where, as part of investigative protocol, he was subjected to a series of blood draws to determine his blood alcohol content. Once the blood draws were completed Farley was transported to the Humboldt County Jail, where he was booked in accordingly. Bail was set at $100,809.
The WPD said the female victim in this case was initially transported to Humboldt General Hospital and then later flown via helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno, where she remains on life support. Her name is not being released at this time pending next of kin notification.
