RYE PATCH - Pershing County Sheriff deputies and members of the Lovelock Volunteer Ambulance crew were dispatched on May 22 at 3:15 p.m. to a single-vehicle accident at Rye Patch.
The accident happened on Reservoir Road across the street from the Rye Patch Truck Stop.
According to Pershing County Sheriff Rich Machado, the driver failed to maneuver around a right-hand curve in the road, ran up the embankment along the roadway, over a sign and came to rest on the driver's side of the 1977 Ford pick-up.
The driver, Rye Patch resident Richard Rinko, was trapped under the steering wheel of his vehicle, officials said.
Rye Patch Volunteer Fire Department Chief Harry Mosby said that a portion of the cab of the pick-up had to be cut away to free the 75-year-old driver.
The driver was taken to Pershing General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Neither Machado nor Mosby would comment on the severity of the injuries. In a later interview with Machado, he said that the driver was released from the hospital later the same day.
At the scene, Machado said that it was possible alcohol was a factor in the accident but would not know for sure until the driver was tested.
