WINNEMUCCA - This Labor Day weekend, tri-county crowds will be entertained by five fiddling prodigies and their very talented mother.
"Mama's Wranglers" will perform for the fifth time at this year's Tri-County Fair, although local audiences will likely remember the group as the "Kid Fiddlers."
In 2012, the Kid Fiddlers celebrated 10 wonderful years and announced a bold new name change. Not only were the "kids" growing up, said mom Toni, but they had also outgrown the "Fiddle" label.
"These children not only play a mean fiddle, but also many different instruments," she said. "They sing amazing vocals with blended harmonies that only siblings can achieve, and they can dance up a storm, so as we begin a new decade, Kid Fiddlers will be known as 'Mama's Wranglers.'"
Toni added, "Don't worry though, there will still be plenty of great fiddling, and the show promises to be better than ever!"
One thing's for sure, regardless of the group's name, local audiences won't want to miss the show that reviewers say will bring audiences to their feet for a hand-clapping, heart-pumping good time.
Reviewer Brian Jones said, "The real test of a performer is their ability to draw a crowd. No one comes close! When this group plays for a passive crowd at a fair, people stop what they're doing and are riveted to the music. No one draws a crowd like they do."
Mama's Wranglers are the Jackson Family Band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Five children, ranging in age from 9 to 20, make up the band, along with bass-playing mom, Toni. The group has performed in 46 of 50 states and across Europe. They also have released several CDs.
Local audiences can catch Mama's Wranglers on the Main Stage Outside on Saturday, August 31, at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.; and on Sunday, September 1, at noon, 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
