(Mac) James K. (Kay) McIntosh, 73, passed away at his home in Spring Creek on June 28, 2012. He was born on July 8, 1938, in Monroe, Utah. He graduated from White Pine High School in 1956. He was in the USAF, Air Police from 1956 - 1960. He was employed as a police officer with the Ely police department from 1961 - 1973.
In 1961, Kay married Rosemary (Loddy) Christensen, giving her two daughters Debbie and Tammy his last name. They were married 29 years.
In 1968 Kay attended the F.B.I. National Academy and graduated at the top of his class. From 1973 - 1976 he was a Trooper with the Nevada Highway Patrol. He attended numerous college and training schools and received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.
In 1977, Kay became sheriff of Pershing County, retiring in 1995 after 37 years in law enforcement.
In 1997, Kay went to Russia working for Newmont Mine as head of security, returning home to the U.S. in 2001.
He received many honors in competitive pistol and sharp shooting with the Nevada Pistol Association. He enjoyed hunting, horseshoes and was an avid Stock Car driver.
Kay's 1973 white Ford pickup was his pride and joy. He always looked forward to a good car show and went home with many awards and prizes. He was most honored to receive the grand prize for the Bob Dyer Memorial Car Show in Lovelock.
On June 24, 2012, he attended his last car show in Elko and received his last award at that show.
If Dad could take just one thing with him, it would be, without a doubt, that old white Ford pickup truck; he loved so much.
He loved life, family, and friends.
Kay was preceded in death by his parents, Ray McIntosh and Telma Murrish, four brothers, Marion, Arnold, Gile and Don; one sister Marge; two grandsons James (Jimmy) and Jason; two great granddaughters Riley and Haley.
He is survived by his sister Beth, two daughters Debby and Tammy, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; his wife Cindy and her two children Zayin and Tzaddi and three grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Longhorn Saloon, 925 W. Broadway in Lovelock on July 28 at 4 p.m. If you would like to help in any way please donate to a cancer charity of your choice in his name.
