Lowry's McKinnon, Cooper finish first and second at Northern Nevada Weightlifting Championships

A handful of athletes from Lowry High School traveled to Reno on Friday, May 23, to compete in the Northern Nevada Weightlifting Championships at Reno High School.

They competed with schools from Reno, Carson, Reed, McQueen, Spanish Springs, Wooster and Fernley.

Shelby McKinnon and Caitlynn Cooper finished first and second overall in the women's division. McKinnon was first in the bench (140 pounds) and clean (165) and third in squat (240).

Cooper was second in each competition and the runner-up to McKinnon in the overall standings, lifting 120 pounds in the bench press, 165 in the clean and 215 in the squat.

On the boys side, Calvin Connors was second overall in his weight class and second in the squat. Donovan Brumm was first in squat in his weight class. Kerry Buckmaster finished second in the bench and clean and was third in squat and Caleb Ahnefeld was second in his weight class in the bench.

Jose Ruiz, Felipe Moreno, Kelvin Mesa, Beau Billingsley and Thomas Schwartz also competed for Lowry.
