WINNEMUCCA - After reaching the state semifinals for the fourth consecutive season, and tying a school record for wins, the Lowry High School football team was rewarded for its success on the field with a number of all-league selections.
The Buckaroos had five players named to the Division I-A North first-team chosen by the league's coaches, and in addition had the Player of the Year in Calvin Connors.
The senior quarterback was 65-of-102 passing for 1,136 yards and 15 touchdowns. In addition, he had 1,69 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
Joining him on the offensive side of the ball were tight end Robert Stepper and center Luis Cardenas. Stepper had 13 receptions for 238 yards and four touchdowns.
The senior trio of Brandon Okuma (linebacker), Matt Ourada (defensive line) and Tanner Lecumberry (cornerback) were named to the first team defense.
The Division I-A North first team offense included, Skylar Williams (Fernley) at quarterback, David Jackson (Elko) and Austin Fletcher (Dayton) at running back and Tyler Bagby (Churchill County), Alex Anguiano (Wooster) and Kevin Montgomery (Fernley) were the wide receivers.
The offensive line was rounded out by Jacob Roumanos (Spring Creek), Damien Nusser (Elko), Anthony Cooney (Fernley) and Brennen Lewis (Churchill County). Cameron Matzen (Churchill County) was chosen as the return specialist.
The first team defense was made of linebackers Trent Tarner (Churchill County), Jordan Walthers (Elko), Eric Wilson (Fernley) and Fletcher (Dayton).
Justin Hatfield (Churchill County), Adam Bullock (Elko) and Roumanos (Spring Creek) comprised the defensive line. Nathan Heck (Churchill County) was chosen at cornerback, Anfernee Sloan (Fernley) and Thor Retzlaff (Truckee) at safety and Foa Sofara (Wooster) and Louden Smith (Truckee) were the punter and kicker, respectively.
Churchill County's Brooke Hill and Elko's Luke Sellers shared the Coach of the Year honors. Churchill County's Morgan Dirickson and Dakota Schelling were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year. Elko's Angel Lievanos was selected as the Lineman of the Year.
Five Buckaroos garnered second-team honors, including Beau Billingsley at running back, Josh Shaver at wide receiver, Kerry Buckmaster on the offensive line, Donovan Brumm at linebacker and Okuma as a return specialist.
Picking up honorable mention status on offense for Lowry were Okuma (running back), Tytus Millikan (wide receiver) and Tytin Johnson and Felipe Moreno (offensive line).
Lowry had seven players on the honorable mention defensive team, including lineman Ivan Castellanos, Kelvin Meza, Kirk Berentsen and Elijah Frei. Troy Hardy and Aaron Nelson were named at cornerback and Billingsley at linebacker.
The Buckaroos went 10-2 this season, including a first-place finish in the Division I-A North at 9-1. Lowry reached the state semifinals for a fourth consecutive season, losing 16-8 to Faith Lutheran in Las Vegas.
