On a rare night on its home floor, the Lowry High School wrestling team celebrated senior night in a big way with a 73-0 win over Pershing County on Wednesday.

The dual victory was the 101st in a row for the Buckaroos, who are now six away from tying Yerington's record and seven from breaking it. Lowry will have a chance to set the new mark at the Division I-A North duals at the end of the month in Winnemucca.

"The biggest thing is that we got to wrestle at home and a thank you to Lovelock," said LHS coach John Brooks. "The thing about the Lovelock kids they don't care who they wrestle. I knew there would be a couple good matches and I am glad we came out on top of them."

Brian Day at 106 pounds and Trase Bell (113) kicked off the night with victories for Lowry. Day pinned Jeffery Martin in the second period and Bell beat Eric Wagner 13-1 for a 10-0 advantage.

Nathen Blanco won by forfeit at 120 pounds and Kevin Blanco held on for a 2-1 decision over Bo Kendall. Gabe Molina (132), Nate Nelson (138) and Seth Hornabrger (145) all won their matches by pin the second period.

One of the most exciting matches of the night came in the 152-pound weight class. Earlier in the season, Blake Duncan beat Angel Ramirez in overtime at the Cody Louk Invitational. The duo were in another battle on Wednesday, with Ramirez leading much of the third period. However, with two seconds left on the clock, Duncan scored a reversal to win the match 5-4.

"I figured that would be a pretty good one," Brooks said. "They went overtime the first time and Angel is a good wrestler. I thought Gabe would have a tougher match, but he went after Riley (Kendall) and got the job done. The biggest thing I take away from tonight is that we won the close matches. Those are the ones the kids look at and think the coaches know what they are talking about. I was thinking we wouldn't do a morning run (on Thursday) but we are."

Shaun Mentaberry (160) gave the Buckaroos a 43-0 lead with his 4-0 win over Vince Evenson and no match lasted more than 85 seconds the rest of the way. Tristen Waller pinned Ben Plimpton in to the first period at 170 pounds, Beau Billingsley (182) won by forfeit and Anthony Hummel (195) pinned Rhett King in 53 seconds.

Blake Hillyer (220) knocked off Logan Murphy in one minute and Luis Cardenas needed just 17 seconds to pin Angel Camerena.

Lowry travels to Minden on Saturday for the Douglas Invitational and will be in Spring Creek on Friday, Jan. 16, and Saturday, Jan. 17, for the Kiwanis Invitational.

"This is where it starts to get fun and I am looking forward to it.," Brooks said. "The tournament in Spring Creek will be a good one to see where we are at. There will be some good teams from the south there and from Idaho. If we come out of there and need to work on things, there is still time."
