What started in December 2009, may potentially turn in to a Nevada state record for the Lowry High School wrestling team this weekend.
The Buckaroos, winners of 101 consecutive duals, host the Division I-A North Duals on Friday and Saturday at the Winnemucca Event Center.
Lowry has seven duals this weekend, four on Friday and three on Saturday, and if the Buckaroos win all seven, they will break the state record of 107 consecutive duals won by Yerington from 1971-79 under the direction of Mike Lommori.
Lowry High School and Winnemucca would like as many fans at the event center as possible. The hope is get as many past Lowry wrestling coaches and wrestlers there for the duals. Past coaches Frank Nenzel, Mike Schellin, Joe Pedrojetti and Jim Billingsley are attempting to be there.
The potential record breaking dual will begin around 11 a.m. on Saturday against Spring Creek.
The duals begin on Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. The Division III/IV North will also be holding its duals in the Winnemucca Event Center.
There will be four mats used for Division I-A on Friday and two mats for Division III. All of the Division III wrestling will be done on Friday night.
Owyhee, Yerington, Wells, Carlin, Pershing County and Battle Mountain will be the Division III schools wrestling.
Lowry will wrestle South Tahoe, Elko, Sparks and Churchill County on Friday.
The Buckaroos will take on Fernley, Dayton and close with Spring Creek on Saturday.
