WINNEMUCCA - The winning ways for the Lowry High School wrestling team continue even in the summer off-season.
The Buckaroos combined with wrestlers from Pershing County High School and Fernley brought 37 wrestlers to Boise State for their wrestling camp at the end of June.
The three Nevada schools were able to draft several other wrestlers from other schools and field three teams. Lowry, Pershing County and Fernley put together a gold team, a blue team and the third squad that was made up with extra kids.
Lowry head coach John Brooks said most kids got well over 15 matches in the dual format. The gold team went undefeated, beating Idaho power Kuna High School for the camp championship. The dual with Kuna came down to a 32-32 tie, but the group of Lowry, Pershing County and Fernley wrestlers won the dual on criteria, winning eight matches to Kuna's seven.
Lowry's Eric Brooks at 120 pounds and Michael Billingsley (170) went undefeated. Pershing County's Cody Craspay (132) was also undefeated.
"It was a great camp and we saw improvement in all the wrestlers that participated," Brooks said. "It was fun to combine teams with my brother Tom in Lovelock and nephew Buzz in Fernley."
