Lowry wrestlers extend dual winning streak to 98

The Lowry High School wrestling team extended the second-longest dual winning streak in state history to 98 with five wins this past Saturday at Churchill County High School in Fallon.

Yerington holds the all-time streak at 107, which spanned from 1971-79.

The Buckaroos swept through the competition at the Earl Wilkens Memorial Tournament, beating Yerington 73-6, South Tahoe 72-3, Fernley 67-6 and Elko.

Lowry took on host Churchill County in the championship and despite trailing 12-0 after two matches, the Buckaroos won 58-24. Churchill County will be one of the main contenders for the Buckaroos in the Division I-A North this season.

Trase Bell (120 pounds), Quint Bell (126), Kevin Blanco (132), Gabe Molina (138), Nate Nelson (145), Tristen Waller (170), Beau Billingsley (182), Anthony Hummel (195), Blake Hillyer (220) and Luis Cardenas (285) all got wins against the Greenwave.

Lowry hosts the Cody Louk Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Winnemucca Event Center. Action begins at 2 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Buckaroos will also host Douglas in a dual on Thursday night at 5 p.m.
