With less than a month left in the season, the Lowry High School wrestling team is working on winning its seventh consecutive Division I-A state championship.
Lowry won its seventh consecutive Kiwanis Invitational title this past weekend in Spring Creek by 30 points over its nearest competition.
The Buckaroos collected 224 points, while Pahrump Valley of the Division I-A South was second at 194. Caldwell, Idaho, was third at 171.50 and Virgin Valley and Reno were fourth and fifth, respectively, with 159.50 and 154 points.
Lowry had three champions on the weekend, including Gabe Molina (132), Beau Billingsley (182) and Luis Cardenas (285). For a second week in a row, Billingsley was named the most outstanding wrestler at a tournament.
Tristen Waller (170) finished third and Shaun Mentaberry (160) was fourth.
Lowry will head west on Interstate 80 this weekend with the Vaquero Invitational in Fernley on Friday and Saturday.
The Buckaroos will look to break the state dual record of 107, when they host the Division I-A North Duals at the Winnemucca Event Center on Friday, Jan. 30, and Saturday, Jan. 31. Lowry has currently won 101 duals in a row.
