Lowry track and field teams compete in Reno, Fallon Bucks travel to Fernley, Elko this weekend

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School track and field team was on the road for two recent meets, beginning on March 23 at Galena High School in Reno for the Sierra League Frosh/Soph. meet, followed by the Fallon Elks Invitational on March 24.

In Reno, the Buckaroo boys finished eighth out of 10 teams with 20 points, as Damonte Ranch ran away with the team title with 210.83 points. The Lady Bucks were eighth as well, scoring 31 points. Damonte Ranch also took home the girls team title with 163.50 points.

Auri Criddle had a strong day for the Lowry girls, as she placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 14.55 seconds, which was just .07 seconds out of third. The freshman also placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 31.24 and was 11th in the 100-meter hurdles at 22.14.

Alondra Duenas, Jocelyn Guiterrez and Carina Ruiz were sixth, seventh and eighth in the 400 meters, with times of 1:18.24, 1:18.52 and 1:19.49. Teammate Courtney Boucher was 10th at 1:22.58.

Chelsea Baker posted a seventh-place finish in the discus with a throw of 65 feet, 5 inches, as was Allison Walker in the 100 meters in a time of 14.87. Jasmine Anicker placed eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 3:15.40 and was 11th in the 1,600 meters at 7:13.58.

Danielle Ricker was ninth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 20.96 and placed 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 24-06. In other finishes, Iridiana Gonzalez was 12th in the 200 meters at 33.33, Ashley McKinnon was 14th in the same event at 33.42 and Nani Ramirez placed 17th in a time of 33.74. In addition, Erica Solberg finished 15th in the shot put at 21-01.

On the boys side, Sterling Dennis led the Buckaroos, finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 48.90, to go with a fourth-place outing in the 100-meter hurdles at 19.08. Fredrick Shafer was ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:33.56, with teammate Ben Tyree 10th at 2:38.92. In addition, Tyree was 14th in the 1,600 meters at 5:44.11.

Richie Bleck tied for 10th in the 400 meters in a time of 1:00.52, while teammate Colton Irons was less than a second behind him in 12th with a time of 1:02.92. Cody Mecham was close behind in 13th at 1:03.17. Irons also placed 15th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:46.08.

Kelvin Meza finished 10th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.46 and Shivam Bhakta placed 13th in the discus with a throw of 76-06.

At the Fallon Elks Invitational, the Lowry boys placed 16th with 12 points and the girls were 25th with one point. Reno won the boys team title with 114 points and Douglas was the girls champion at 99.50 points.

The only athlete to score points for the Lady Bucks was Jasmin Landa, who placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 29-03. Sophomore Rachel Sigurdson placed 13th in the high jump at 4-06 and was 19th along with teammate Morgan Rasmussen in the pole vault at 5-06.

Rachel Jones placed 16th in the shot put with a throw of 27-08 and teammate Kim Garcia was 21st at 25-03. Kelsey Killpack finished 22nd in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.21, Meg Montero was 23rd in the 400 meters in a time of 1:09.23 and Casey Kieser placed 24th in the 800 meters at 2:57.50.

Cody Andersen had the best finish for Lowry in Fallon, taking third in the discus with a throw of 137-04.50, which was best among the 3A schools by seven feet. In addition, Andersen was 13th in the shot put at 42-01. Robert Stepper placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-08, and Bret Hammon was eighth in the 100-meter dash at 11.94, which was fourth among 3A runners.

Matt Jones and Kevin Boyle tied for 12th in the pole vault, clearing a height of 10-06, with Boyle also finishing 19th in the high jump at 5-04.

Lowry will split its teams up this Saturday, sending one group to the Elko Invitational and another to the Fernley Invitational. Both meets are set to start at 9 a.m. The Buckaroos will then be at home on Tuesday, April 17, to host the Tri-County Invitational along with McDermitt, Pershing County and Battle Mountain at 4 p.m.
