Lowry track and field team competes at Fallon Elks Invitational

Sigurdson, Ingram post runner-up finishes

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School track and field team jumped into its first major invitational this past Saturday at the Fallon Elks Invitational.

The Lady Bucks finished sixth as a team with 55 points as McQueen won the team title with 124 points. Spring Creek was second at 96 and Truckee was third with 71 points. Dayton (67) and Spanish Springs (62) rounded out the top five.

The Lowry boys tied for ninth with Rite of Passage with 24 points. McQueen took home the team championship with 184 points, while Churchill County was second at 97. Spanish Springs (86), Dayton (59.50) and South Tahoe (49.50) finished out the top five.

Savannah Ingram led the Lady Bucks with a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, 10.50 inches. Dayton's Kylee Turner claimed first place with a toss of 33-11.50. The senior added a seventh-place outing in the discus at 88-10.

Rachel Sigurdson was second in the pole vault as the junior cleared 8-6. McQueen's Natasha Black won the event at 11-0. In addition, Sigurdson was seventh in the high jump with a mark of 4-6 and was 17th in the 200 meters in a time of 29.83 seconds.

Senior Raven Black posted a pair of third-place finishes in the high jump and pole vault. Black cleared 4-10 in the high jump to tie Dayton's Madison Foley. Pershing County's Samantha Dennler won the event at 5-2. Black cleared the bar in the pole vault at 7-0.

Alex Schirrick was third in the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.90. Dayton's Lettie Lynch and Truckee's Tareyn Ryan were first and second, respectively, with times of 13.46 and 13.70. The sprinter added a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters at 28.94. Truckee's Quinn Parker won the race with a time of 26.32.

Chandra Wanner was fourth and 12th, respectively, in the discus and shot put with throws of 94-1 and 27-4.50. Rachel Jones placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 28-10.25 and Hayley Hall was eighth in the pole vault at 6-6. Hall went on to finish ninth in the high jump as she cleared 4-4 and Jones was 10th in the discus at 83-5.

Freshman Jillian Albright placed 11th and 13th in the 800 meters and 1,600 meters, respectively, with times of 2:43.80 and 6:07.50. Taylor LaTray and Meg Montero were 13th and 15th in the 400 meters at 1:08.56 and 1:09.34 and Monique Rodriguez finished 12th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19:50. Kelsey Killpack posted a 13th-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 56.08 and Dani Ricker was 14th in the 100-meter hurdles at 20:03.

The 4x100 relay and 4x200 relay teams of Schirrick, LaTray, Killpack and Montero were fourth and fifth, respectively.

On the boys side, Cody Andersen posted a third-place finish in the discus with a toss of 135-2. Pershing County's Randolph Mclean won the event with a throw of 141-09 and Dayton's Josh Koch was second at 135-11.

In addition, Andersen placed eighth in the shot put at 42-9. Teammates Sergio Castaneda and Taylor Martin were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put with throws of 43-7 and 42-11.50. Castaneda and Martin had a strong day in the discus as well. Castaneda was fifth at 127-2 and Martin was seventh with a throw of 122-4.

Robert Stepper placed fourth in the high jump at 5-10 and was second best among Division I-A schools. Spanish Springs' Trent Williams and Tonopah's Spencer Littlefield each cleared 6-0.

Kelvin Meza was 12th in the 400 meters (56.25), Jeremiah Teichert was 19th in the 100-meter hurdles (20:09) and Hayden Jeppsen was 20th in the 3,200 meters (11:42.60).

Lowry is off for the next two weeks and returns to action on Thursday, April 11, at home for a meet at 3:30 p.m.
