Lowry track and field team begins season in Spring Creek

The Lowry High School track and field team kicked off its season last week at Spring Creek and came away with a number of strong finishes.

The Lady Bucks finished fourth as a team with 110.50 points. Spring Creek was first and Elko and White Pine, were second and third, respectively.

Jillian Albright led the Lowry girls, winning the 400 meters with a time of 63.08 seconds and the junior also won the title in the triple jump with a leap of 21 feet, 6 inches. Albright was second in the pole vault, clearing 7-6. She tied for first, but lost out to Spring Creek's Sheridan Walund on attempts.

Kenadee Jeppsen started her sophomore season in style winning the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.64. Freshman teammate Hailey Hinkle was third in the race at 50.64. Jeppsen, who finished second in the state championships last year in the high jump, was second last Saturday at Spring Creek, clearing 5-0. In addition, Jeppsen placed seventh in the triple jump at 28-7 and seventh in the long jump (13-11).

The Lady Bucks had four placers in the top six of the high jump, with Dani Ricker fifth at 4-6, while Shelby Garrison and Hinkle also cleared 4-6 to tie for sixth. Hinkle, who had a busy day, was ninth in the 1,600 meters at 6:17.57.

Audrey Snow posted a third-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 28.86 in addition to placing sixth in the 100-meter dash at 13.88. Monique Rodriguez finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 18.67 and freshman Kepa Bengochea was seventh in the 100-meter dash at 13.89 and seventh in the pole vault with a height of 6-0.

Mikayla Wilke added an 11th-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.64.

The girls 4x200 and 4x400 relays took home first place with times of 1:59.06 and 4:29.54, respectively, and the Lady Bucks were second in the 4x100 at 55.44.

On the boys side, Steven Cholico was second in the shot put, at 39-9, while teammate Bryan Ramos was fifth at 38-9. Bryan Terry (100-6.5) was seventh in the discus, while Cholico (98-7) and Eric Zamora (95-10) were eighth and ninth, respectively, in the discus.

James Dowd and Zack White placed third and fourth in the pole vault, with marks of 9-6 and 9-0, respectively. James Dunyon was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 20.70 and Kelvin Meza (56.40), Jed Teichert (57.38) and Kobe Fitzpatrick (57.88) were sixth, eighth and ninth in the 400 meters.

Roberto Sanchez (33-10) and White (33-9) placed sixth and seventh in the triple jump and Hayden Jeppsen was eighth in the 3,200 meters in a time of 12:01.63. Eric Lopez finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 5-4 and he was 11th in the long jump with a leap of 16-3. Michael Wing added an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash at 12.08.

The 4x200 and 4x400 relays for the Lowry boys were second, as Spring Creek won both races.

As a team, the Buckaroos were fifth.

Lowry travels to Elko this weekend for a 9 a.m. meet.
