Lowry track and field splits squads between Carson, Dayton Andersen wins discus at Carson, Stepper second in high jump

WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School track and field team posted a number of impressive finishes last Saturday, as it split its squads at the Carson and Dayton invitationals.

The Lady Bucks finished sixth out of 15 teams in Carson, which featured nine Northern 4A schools. The Lowry boys were ninth with 31 points. Damonte Ranch (198) and Carson (129) won the girls and boys team championships, respectively.

Cody Andersen led the way for the Buckaroos, winning the discus with a throw of 145 feet, 5 inches. The junior placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 45-08.50. Robert Stepper provided a second-place finish in the high jump by clearing 6-0, as well as a 14th-place outing in the long jump at 17-09.75.

Taylor Martin placed sixth in both the shot put and discus with throws of 42-08.50 and 124-11, respectively, and teammate Sergio Castaneda finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 41-09.50. Kevin Boyle and Nate Eldodt collected the Lowry boys last individual top 10's, finishing ninth in the pole vault, clearing 11-00 and jumping 18-09.50 in the long jump. In addition, Boyle placed 11th in the high jump at 5-6.

Chase Estes finished 13th and 17th in the 800 and 400 meters, respectively, with times of 2:18.33 and 57.46, while Bret Hammon was 14th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.08 seconds. Matt Jones placed 13th in the pole vault at 10-0. Michael Billingsley cleared 9-6 and was 15th.

For the Lady Bucks, Monique Rodriguez and Jasmin Landa led the way with third-place finishes. Rodriguez ran the 300-meter hurdles in 18.86 and Landa threw the shot put 33-00.75. Taylor LaTray placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 67.50. Chandra Waner was fifth in the discus with a throw of 94-06, and Kim Garcia finished ninth in the shot put at 29-08.75.

Rachel Sigurdson had two top-10 finishes on the day, placing seventh in the high jump, clearing 4-8 and ninth in the pole vault at 7-6. Marion House placed 10th in the 3,200 meters with a time of 14:05.32. Raven Black finished 11th in the pole vault at 7-0 and was 13th in the high jump, as she cleared 4-6.

Alex Schirrick also had a top 10 in the 200 meters, as the junior was 10th in a time of 28.33 to go with a 14th-place outing in the 100-meter dash at 13.87. Freshman Meg Montero placed 12th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.83.

In Dayton, Hayden Jeppsen was fourth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:55.71 to lead the Buckaroos. Morgan Dougherty placed sixth in the 1,600 meters at 5:06.10, and Frederick Shafer was 15th in the 400 meters in a time of 59.56.

Yesica Juanes paced the Lady Bucks with a 10th-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 23-06.50. Allison Walker finished 13th in the 100-meter dash at 14.32 and 14th in the discus at 65-00.

As a team the Lowry boys were 11th with 22 points and the girls were eighth with 20 points. Spring Creek won the boys team title at 268 and Dayton led the girls standings with 260 points.

Lowry travels to Yerington on Saturday for the Yerington Relays at 9 a.m. The Buckaroos finish the regular season at home on Saturday, May 5, with the Lowry Invitational at 9 a.m.
