Lowry spring sports begin this weekend throughout Nevada

Baseball plays in Lovelock, softball travels to Mesquite

Even as the Lowry High School basketball teams were finishing their season, the spring sports season for the Buckaroos has already begun.

Practice for spring sports began last week, with the first game action taking part beginning on Thursday.

The Buckaroo varsity baseball team will be in Lovelock for the three-day Pershing County Tournament.

Lowry plays Pershing County at 3 p.m. on Thursday and Carlin on Friday at 3 p.m. The Buckaroos play a doubleheader on Saturday, facing Battle Mountain at 11 a.m. and Sparks at 1 p.m.

The Buckaroos open Division I-A play on March 13-14 at Sparks and they make their home debut on Friday, March 20, against Elko.

The Lowry junior varsity baseball team will be at home Friday and Saturday to play Spring Creek. The two schools will play a single game at 3 p.m. on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The movement of the schedule to a week earlier this season, has forced the Lowry softball team to move from Elk Grove, Calif., to Mesquite for its opening tournament of the season.

The Lady Bucks will take on Virgin Valley on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The tournament will go into bracket play on Friday with Lowry playing Foothill of the Division I South at noon. The Falcons went 22-15 last year and won the Sunrise Regional Championship. Foothill also played in the Division I state tournament.

If Lowry wins they play the Moapa Valley/Spring Creek winner at 4 p.m. A loss and the Lady Bucks will play the loser at 4 p.m.

Virgin Valley and Elko and Arbor View and Cheyenne are in the bottom half of the bracket.

The Lady Bucks open Division I-A play on March 13-14 at Sparks and they make their home debut on Friday, March 20, against Elko.

The Lowry JV softball team will play Sparks on Saturday, March 14, in Winnemucca to begin its season.

The Lowry swim team begins the year in Reno on Saturday at 3 p.m. as it takes on Incline at Northwest Pool.

The Lowry track and field team is in Spring Creek on Saturday for a league meet that begins at 9 a.m. The Buckaroos host their annual invitational May 2.

The Buckaroo boys golf team will take part in a non-conference "Icebreaker" on Friday at 10 a.m. The first conference meet for Lowry is Thursday, March 12, in Dayton at 10 a.m.
