Despite another slow start to a series, the Lowry High School softball team bounced back in a big way last Saturday in Fallon, winning two of three games from the Greenwave.

Churchill County, who knocked Lowry out of the regional playoffs last year in Winnemucca, won the opening game of the series on Friday 11-3. However, the Lady Bucks bounced back to take down the defending I-A state runner-up twice on Saturday. Lowry won the first game 12-4 and the second 7-3, pounding out 14 hits in each contest.

The victories propelled the Lady Bucks to first place in the Division I-A North at 13-2 and 14-5 overall. Lowry also holds the tiebreaker with Churchill County when it comes to postseason seeding.

The Greenwave are second at 12-2, suffering their only two league losses of the season to the Buckaroos on Saturday. Fernley is third in the Division I-A North at 9-2 and Spring Creek and Dayton are tied for fourth at 7-7. Lowry beat Dayton twice this year and hosts Spring Creek in the final week of the regular season in May.

The Lowry baseball team will have an uphill battle in the rest of the season in search of one of the four regional playoff spots. The Buckaroos lost all three games to the Greenwave this past weekend.

Churchill County won the opener 11-3 on Friday and swept a doubleheader 6-3 and 6-1 on Saturday. Lowry led the first game on Saturday 3-1, only to see Churchill County score the final five runs. The Buckaroos are now 6-9 in the Division I-A North and 6-14 overall.

The league standings saw a shake up at the top with Elko moving to first at 10-4. South Tahoe (11-5) dropped to second after losing two of three games to Fernley. Churchill County and Fernley are tied for third at 9-5 and Spring Creek is fifth at 8-6. Lowry is currently sixth, but still has three-game series with Fernley and Spring Creek.
