WINNEMUCCA - If you look at the Ruby Mountain all-league softball team there is going to be quite a few Lowry High School players on it.
The Lady Bucks placed 13 of their 14 players on the three respective squads, including four on the first team. That group included pitcher Jordan Mecham, right fielder Heather McElvain, shortstop Madi Gonzalez and third baseman Hana Etcheverry.
Lowry finished second in the Ruby Mountain League to White Pine at 12-3 and advanced to the state tournament after sweeping a pair of games from South Tahoe in the regional playoffs. The Lady Bucks advanced to the state championship game for the first time since 2007 and were defeated 10-1 by Churchill County at Hixson Field on the campus of the University of Nevada. Lowry ended the year at 20-13 and loses nine seniors to graduation.
Second baseman Ere Higbee and first baseman Taylor Johnson were named to the second team, as were outfielder Sydnie Sundahl and catcher Shelby McKinnon. McKinnon, was not chosen at catcher but as a utility player.
Pitchers Kayla Doyle and Shannon McClellan were honorable mention choices, along with center fielder Carli Evatz, second baseman Angie Herrera and Ashley Lombardi as a utility player.
